A Prayer for When You Feel Invisible
The question of being seen by God comes up again and again for those who have endured trauma. Many women wonder if God has turned a blind eye—or worse, if He simply doesn’t care. Over the years, the silence or hurtful actions of others may have sent the message that their pain doesn’t matter, that they don’t deserve better, or that they should simply endure.
But here is the truth: God absolutely sees you. Like a parent whose child was entrusted to others and then harmed, His heart is deeply grieved. He feels righteous anger, sorrow, compassion, and an unending desire to heal. He never stops moving toward your restoration.
At Phasing Out of Trauma, one of the first things we do in group is pray together. Our Phase 1 prayer anchors us in four core truths:
God does see us.
God knows what we’ve endured.
God loves us deeply.
God provides when we ask.
Our Prayer
El Roi, God who sees me,
loves me, and knows me.
Grant me the courage to face
the effects of my trauma,
the wisdom to
understand their meaning,
and the strength to enter
the healing process,
so that I may become
the woman
I was created to be.
Amen.
If you have unresolved trauma—because you were never given the support you needed to process what happened—let this prayer encourage you. Use it daily, hourly, or even moment by moment to anchor yourself in God’s presence.
Scripture confirms these truths:
God sees us. Hagar declared, “You are the God who sees me” (Genesis 16:13).
God knows us.“Even the very hairs of your head are all numbered” (Luke 12:7). Nothing you’ve endured has gone unnoticed.
God loves us.“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son” (John 3:16). “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13).
God provides.“Consider how the lilies grow… If that is how God clothes the grass of the field… how much more will he clothe you?” (Luke 12:27–28).
At Phasing Out of Trauma, every week two or more of us gather to pray this same prayer in solidarity. Together, we lift our voices to the God who sees, knows, loves, and provides.
If God ever leads you to join us in group, we will celebrate that as an answered prayer. Until then, hold onto this promise: God sees you, loves you, and knows you. He desires your full healing and wholeness.
